Equipment manufacturers are continuously developing new methods to make operations safer. Remote-control solutions could certainly be part of the long-term answer.

Hyundai Construction Equipment leaders say as much, showcasing a remote-control HL960A wheel loader in a special station at ConExpo-Con/Agg. Exhibiting in West Hall (Booth W42501) of the Las Vegas Convention Center, Hyundai says those who step foot in its remote-control station at the show are actually operating an HL960A that’s roughly 1,800 miles away in Georgia.

Hyundai, which intends to someday bring the remote-control technology to the market, sees remote control as a solution to operate equipment in environments that are difficult for operators to access. The Hyundai station at ConExpo-Con/Agg includes multiple camera displays and a dashboard for operators to control the equipment effectively.

According to Hyundai, it is using wired and wireless internet connections to communicate between the remote-control station in Nevada and the machine in Georgia. The company says it is possible to perform loading and dumping operations efficiently by checking the height and posture of the bucket visually and audibly.

Hyundai is demonstrating the technology for the duration of ConExpo-Con/Agg.
