Along with highlighting its classic equipment at ConExpo-Con/Agg, EIW (Eagle Iron Works) showcased a brand-new plant that gives the company fuller washing and classifying offerings.

EIW’s Falcon sand washing plant was introduced during the show’s inaugural Media Monday. The company says the Falcon brings high product yield in a compact washing system that produces a drip-free, stackable, easy-to-handle product.

“We’re talking about end-to-end washing,” says Mark Krause, managing director of North America at McLanahan Corp., which purchased the assets of EIW in 2012. “Now, we have thickeners, filter presses, sand plants and fines recovery units that we never had before for Eagle Iron Works. It’s a pretty exciting time for that whole group there.

The Falcon is a sump-fed system comprised of a sump pump, hydrocyclones, a dewatering screen and a pump. A slurry feed is collected in the sump of the system, where it is pumped to the hydrocyclones for classification.

Product-sized solids are discharged out the bottom of the hydrocyclone and onto a dewatering screen, while fines and excess water overflow out the top of the hydrocyclone to waste or further processing, according to EIW. The dewatering screen then removes any excess moisture from the product and discharges a drip-free, ready-to-sell sand.

The water and fines that pass through the dewatering screen are recirculated through the system by way of the sump to minimize the loss of sand-size products and reduce the waste sent to ponds. The heavy-duty design and easy maintenance of the Falcon make it the ideal wash plant for operations seeking a high-sand-recovery solution, EIW says. Additionally, the company says the compact, modular design allows for quick setup and maximum use of land resources, according to EIW.

“EIW has been successful for the last 150 years because we design and build the heavy-duty equipment that the industry needs,” says Tim Miller, business line director at EIW. “We listened to the customers and industries around us and have developed a new system that we’re excited to launch.”
